About The Book
What happens when childhood ends at age nine?
In The Child I Left Behind: A Mother’s Journey Toward Healing and Forgiveness, Anjalia McGoldrick tells the powerful story of her early life, when trauma and hardship shaped her into the woman she would become. Catapulted into adulthood at the age of nine, Anjalia’s journey takes her through unimaginable challenges: a pregnancy at age thirteen, an abusive relationship with an older boyfriend, and the fight for survival as a new mother. At sixteen, she escapes this toxic relationship with only her life and embarks on a path to healing and self-reliance.
Against all odds, Anjalia triumphs over poverty and instability, eventually becoming a successful entrepreneur and psychotherapist. But the scars of her early experiences remain, as she struggles with the emotional wounds left by the difficult decisions she made as a desperate young girl.
Through sheer determination, she overcomes the shadows of her past, seeking peace and forgiveness, not just for the world around her, but for herself. This memoir is a powerful exploration of resilience, the emotional impact of childhood trauma, and the transformative power of healing and self-forgiveness. Anjalia’s story of survival and growth is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, the importance of reconciliation, and the journey toward emotional wholeness. It is a life-changing message for anyone who has ever thought, I’ll never be happy again.
